London Kayakathon 2011

On the same day as the London Marathon, a 26.2 mile Kayakathon was held on the river Thames

And, like last year, we entered a team of sea kayakers

A glorious day, paddling in perfect conditions.  Only real challenge was to get to the start point at Shadwell Thames before the Marathon organisers closed all the roads

Fortified with breakfast from a local greasy spoon, it was a quick briefing session, then out on the water

Under the bridges, cheered on by crowds there to watch the runners – the kayaks made their way past the sites of Central London towards relative greenery

After a quick stop for a sandwich outside the Ship pub at Chiswick Bridge – good time was made returning to base

Hugely successful day making over £23,000 for various charities
